Britney Spears is feeling quite grateful amid her conservatorship battle. After being granted the right to hire her own private lawyer to represent her in the court hearing, the “Toxic” songstress admitted that she felt “blessed” in a new social media post.
Spears told judge Brenda Penny that she would like to choose her own counsel. “I haven’t really had the opportunity by my own self to actually handpick my own lawyer by myself. And I would like to be able to do that,” she said during the court hearing.
Penny granted Spears the ability to hire her own lawyer, a significant step in the pop star’s fight to end her 13-year conservatorship. That lawyer will be Mathew Rosengart, a former federal prosecutor who has represented stars like Sean Penn and Keanu Reeves.
On Wednesday (Jul. 14, 2021) the 39-year-old pop star took to her Instagram page to express her gratitude. Along with a video of her riding a horse and doing cartwheels, she wrote, “Coming along, folks … coming along!!!!! New with real representation today … I feel GRATITUDE and BLESSED !!!!”
“Thank you to my fans who are supporting me … You have no idea what it means to me be supported by such awesome fans !!!! God bless you all !!!!!” Britney continued to thank her fans and followers for their continuous support amid her conservatorship battle. The “Oops!… I Did It Again” singer then ended her caption, writing, “Pssss this is me celebrating by horseback riding and doing cartwheels today!!!!” adding “#FreeBritney” hashtag.
Spears’ boyfriend, Sam Asghari, and celebrities like Ariana Grande commented on Spears’ post to show their support. “Internet is about to explode #freebritney,” Asghari wrote, while Grande said, “YOU ARE SO VERY LOVED AND SUPPORTED.”
In a bizarre twist, U.S. representative Matt Gaetz spoke outside the hearing, stating, “There’s a lot that still divides us but one thing we call all agree on is that Jamie Spears is a dick,” he said in front of other fans who had gathered in front of the courthouse.
Gaetz, a Florida congressman who is under investigation by the Justice Department on suspicion that he may have violated federal sex trafficking laws by having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old, called Britney’s case “a black eye on the American justice system.”
“He should not be making any more decisions regarding his daughter, she is nearly 40 years old she should make her own decisions. This case should open our eyes to the broader abuse that occurs in this system to the millions of Americans impacted,” Matt explained further.
He continued, “Britney has a chance because we all love her and we care about her. The whole world knows what Britney Spears wants, and it is the freedom and the liberty that should be offered to every single American. Free Britney!”
