Ellen DeGeneres and her partner Portia De Rossi have decided to bid farewell to America for a fresh start overseas.

The couple has relocated to England and intends to put their Montecito, Calif. property on the market, according to The Wrap on Nov. 20. Sources claim their move was triggered by former President Donald Trump’s electoral victory over Vice President Kamala Harris, whom Ellen had supported, in the 2024 presidential race earlier this month.

The pair—who exchanged vows in 2008—seems to be embracing British life already, as they were recently spotted checking out Jeremy Clarkson‘s establishment The Farmer’s Dog in Burford, England.

A video shared on Instagram by his girlfriend Lisa Hogan shows Ellen and Portia enjoying an acoustic set by The Corrs. They were also accompanied by singer Natalie Imbruglia, famous for her 1997 smash hit “Torn,” who performs with the Irish ensemble.

While Ellen has owned multiple luxurious California properties—including a Montecito home near Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, and Oprah Winfrey—she’s now settled in the Cotswolds, a picturesque rural region in England popular among celebrities, which includes Burford, as reported by TheWrap and TMZ.

The 66-year-old comedian has maintained a low profile lately. She wrapped up her daytime program The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2022 after 19 seasons, following an internal probe into claims of a “toxic work environment.” Three top staff members had departed from the production in 2020.

Ellen had addressed the situation, stating on her show that year, “We have made the necessary changes and today we are starting a new chapter.”

This summer, Ellen hinted at leaving showbiz altogether. During a standup show in Santa Rosa, Calif., when asked about potential Broadway or movie appearances, Ellen was straightforward.

“Um, no,” she responded, according to SFGATE. “This is the last time you’re going to see me. After my Netflix special, I’m done.”

Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval, described as the “final comedy special of her historic career,” debuted on Netflix in September. “I got kicked out of show business. Yeah, ’cause I’m mean,” the Finding Dory actress quipped during the special. “You can’t be mean and be in show business. No, they’ll kick you out. No mean people in show business.”

Ellen expressed her love for her show, saying, “It was a family to me.”

“I have a choice of people remembering me as someone who is mean, or someone who is beloved,” she stated. “I choose that.”
