Eva Mendes opened up to The Sunday Times, sharing that she “was never in love with acting,” which explains why she’s not in a rush to end her decade-long break from the silver screen. The last time we saw Mendes in a feature film was back in 2014, playing a small part in her partner Ryan Gosling‘s directorial debut, Lost River. She did lend her voice to a 2021 episode of Bluey on ABC Kids, but that’s been about it.
“I was never in love with acting. I don’t mean this in a self-deprecating way, but I wasn’t a great actress,” Mendes admitted. “I had my moments when I worked with really great people.”
In Mendes’ view, her best work came when she starred opposite Gosling in the 2012 crime drama The Place Beyond the Pines or when he directed her in Lost River. She noted, “He gets something out of me that’s never been accessible before.”
