The FBI just made the Nancy Guthrie case significantly more unsettling.
On Tuesday (February 10, 2026), federal authorities released surveillance photos and videos showing a masked person lurking on the porch of the 84-year-old’s Tucson home on the morning she vanished. The images, recovered from what investigators call “residual data located in backend systems,” show someone in full tactical mode: gloves, mask, backpack, the works.
FBI Director Kash Patel posted the footage to X, and it’s the stuff of nightmares. One 27-second clip shows the figure approaching Nancy Guthrie’s front door, casually raising a gloved hand toward the camera like they’re waving hello to their future viral fame, then walking away. Another 14-second video is somehow worse—the person holds a flashlight in their mouth before covering the lens with what law enforcement sources told CBS News appears to be prairie brush.

Very ominous. Very calculated. Very much the behavior of someone who knows they’re being recorded.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told reporters last week that a doorbell camera at Guthrie’s home was disconnected at approximately 1:47 a.m. that day. The FBI worked with Google to recover the Nest camera footage, and two law enforcement sources confirmed to CBS News the person in the images is considered a subject they’re trying to identify, though not yet a suspect or person of interest.
Savannah Guthrie, the Today show co-host and Nancy’s daughter, responded to the FBI photo release with an emotional Instagram post. “Someone out there recognizes this person,” she wrote. “We believe she is still out there. Bring her home.”
Earlier this week, Savannah made another desperate plea for help. “We are at an hour of desperation, and we need your help,” she said in a video on Monday (February 9, 2026), asking anyone with information to contact law enforcement regardless of where they live.
The case has grown increasingly bizarre. Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on February 1 after being dropped off at her home the night before. A ransom note demanding $6 million in bitcoin surfaced last week, with a deadline that passed Monday. The FBI said they’re “not aware of any continued communication between the Guthrie family and suspected kidnappers.”

An FBI spokesperson emphasized the urgency. “Someone has that one piece of information that can help us bring Nancy home,” they said. The bureau is offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to her recovery.
Nancy Guthrie left critical medication behind at home, making the situation even more dire. The search has now stretched into its second week, with investigators combing through forensic and digital evidence while the Guthrie family waits for answers.
