Glee Reboot Script Is Finished, and Ryan Murphy Says 10 Original Cast Members Are Already in the Loop

Ryan Murphy just dropped the Gleeboot bomb, and he did it with a shrug.

Asked about a Glee revival by Entertainment Tonight on Wednesday (September 23, 2026), Murphy said: “Well, funny you ask, ’cause I just finished the script an hour ago.”

“So, we have a script. Brad [Falchuk], Ian [Brennan] and I, who wrote all the first two seasons, have written something. I’ve been in touch with around 10 of the original cast members. It’s very sweet, and they all had a lot of questions, but they all were very enthusiastic about the idea.”

And the phones are already ringing. “I’ve been in touch with around 10 of the original cast members,” Murphy said.

Their reaction? “It’s very sweet,” he said, adding that the cast had plenty of questions.

Before anyone orders matching show choir vests, Murphy tapped the brakes himself: “Nobody’s read it, so I don’t know, we’ll see.” No studio is attached yet, either.

This has been building all summer. Murphy told People the show found a second life with Gen Z. “So many young people now watch it,” he said.

He got misty, too. “I loved what it became and what it meant to so many people.”

Then came the cold shower. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Murphy said a green light depends on “how the scripts come in and what it costs.”

That’s the Murphy we know: sentimental and ruthless in the same breath. On a Glee rewatch podcast, he mused about wanting to “really re-examine it as a brand,” even floating a Broadway musical.

Brad Falchuk, meanwhile, has been the designated skeptic. “Is there a way to tell that story in a more modern way?” he asked in 2024.

He also delivered the most honest sentence Hollywood has produced in years: “I wonder what the point would be, except it’d be a moneymaker.”

Let’s not pretend the baggage isn’t there. The series was dogged by controversies and behind-the-scenes drama, and three of its stars, Cory Monteith, Mark Salling and Naya Rivera, have died. Any revival walks straight into that shadow.

Fans could not care less about the risk. When Ben Platt belted Addison Rae‘s “Diet Pepsi” at the Las Culturistas Culture Awards, the internet’s verdict was unanimous. “This is proof we need a Glee reboot,” one fan declared.

And honestly? The Gleeks might be right. As one Bustle writer and self-described Gleek argued, there’s no legacy left to ruin on a show where Sue Sylvester married herself.

Murphy has the script. He has the writers. He has 10 enthusiastic alumni on speed dial.

What he doesn’t have is a network, a budget, or a single reader.
