Actress Hannah Waddingham, celebrated for her role in Ted Lasso, made headlines at the 2024 Olivier Awards—but not just for her role as host. Waddingham won admiration for her assertive response to a photographer’s inappropriate request.

While gracing the red carpet at London’s prestigious Royal Albert Hall, Waddingham encountered a moment that could have marred the celebratory evening. A photographer’s untoward comment, overheard in a video shared by fans on Twitter, was met with a swift rebuke from the actress. In fan footage posted on X/Twitter, Hannah said, “Oh my God, you’d never say that to a man. Don’t be a dick otherwise, I’ll move off. Don’t say, ‘Show me leg.’ No.”

The exchange continued, and although their words were lost amidst the crowd’s excitement, Waddingham’s body language—shaking her head and pointing her finger—spoke volumes about her stance on respect and decorum. As she walked down more steps, the 49-year-old turned back, pointed to the photographer, and said, “Have some manners.”

Waddingham’s evening, however, shined beyond this incident. Adorned in a lilac Marchesa gown featuring a thigh-high slit, she captivated attendees upon arrival. Later, she dazzled on stage with her performance of “Anything Goes,” forming part of her hosting duties, and enchanted the audience in an opulent silver ballgown.

Praise for her hosting prowess poured in from across the nation, heralding Waddingham as a “national treasure” and praising her as a “once in a generation talent.” The Olivier Awards may be a night to honor stage performances, but Waddingham’s off-stage role truly captured the spotlight.
