The rumors have finally been confirmed. Fashion icon Jenna Lyons announced on November 21 that she’s leaving The Real Housewives of New York City after appearing on two seasons of the Bravo series. The 57-year-old former J.Crew Creative Director took to Instagram to share the news with fans, ending her run on the show that began with the highly anticipated 2023 reboot.

In her heartfelt post, Lyons revealed that she was actually asked to return for season 16 as a “friend of” the cast, but after careful consideration, she decided to quit the show entirely. So what led to this decision? According to Jenna, it all came down to authenticity and timing. “Knowing my personal life was not really available to be filmed, we agreed that made sense,” she explained, referencing her private relationship with photographer Cass Bird.

The decision wasn’t easy, though. Lyons shared that she “would be the oldest and only openly gay woman on the show and feel like this is an opportunity for a new dynamic to emerge”. It seems the fashion mogul recognized that stepping aside might open doors for fresh perspectives on the Real Housewives New York City cast.

Despite her exit, Jenna made it clear she harbors no hard feelings. She expressed deep gratitude to executive producer Andy Cohen, writing, “I am so grateful to [Andy Cohen] for the opportunity and support”. She also thanked the entire Bravo production team and her castmates, including Erin Lichy, Jessel Taank, Sai De Silva, Ubah Hassan, and Racquel Chevremont.

But don’t think we’ve seen the last of Jenna Lyons weighing in on RHONY drama. The beloved fashionista promised fans she’ll be “watching and bitching from the sidelines with love and outfit judgement”. Honestly? That sounds pretty perfect for someone known for their impeccable style and sharp wit.

Meanwhile, the show itself is facing major changes. Brynn Whitfield already announced her departure earlier this year, and Rebecca Minkoff also left after just one season. It looks like season 16 of the Real Housewives New York City is shaping up to be a whole new era for the franchise.

Jenna’s time on the show may have been short, but she definitely made her mark with memorable fashion moments and that unforgettable bathrobe at the season 15 reunion.
