In totally unexpected casting news, Jennifer Garner is apparently returning as Elektra for Deadpool 3, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Garner first played the famous assassin all the way back in 2005’s Elektra. While the movie both flopped at the box office and was torn apart by critics, Garner’s performance was generally praised.

It marks a reunion for Garner with Deadpool 3 star Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy, who all previously worked together on Netflix’s The Adam Project.

Deadpool 3 is currently in the thick of production, as returning star Stefan Kapicic confirmed in May, and as on-set photos has started to circulate online.

Although many productions have halted amid the ongoing writers’ strike, Marvel Studios is moving forward with Deadpool 3, whose script was complete before the work stoppage was called in May.

Deadpool 3 is set to release on May 3, 2024; however, its production would likely be impacted if SAG-AFTRA calls for a strike. The guild representing Hollywood’s actors recently delayed its deadline with studios until July 12.

Garner is only the latest major star to reprise a big role in Deadpool 3, with Hugh Jackman also making his return as Wolverine.

Returning cast members include Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, Kapicic as Colossus, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Rob Delaney as Peter, Karan Soni as Dopinder, and Leslie Uggams as Blind Al. Zazie Beetz, however, will apparently not be returning as Domino.
