Chappell Roan‘s ongoing saga with fan boundaries has officially gone international — and this time, it involves a little girl, a handmade sign, and a breakfast table in São Paulo.

Brazilian soccer star Jorginho Frello took to Instagram Stories Saturday to publicly blast Roan and her security team after an incident at a São Paulo hotel where both his family and the pop star were staying ahead of Lollapalooza Brazil. The post was long, furious, tagged directly at Roan’s account, and written in both Spanish and English — just to make sure no one missed it.

“I went through a very upsetting situation with my family earlier today,” Frello opened, setting the tone immediately.

The story starts almost sweetly. Frello’s wife, Catherine Harding, and her 11-year-old daughter (Frello’s step-daughter) were staying at the same hotel as Roan, who was headlining Lollapalooza that night. His daughter had woken up “incredibly excited,” even crafting a handmade sign — pink, blue, and purple, naturally — because she was thrilled about seeing an artist she “really admires, or used to admire.”

That little editorial footnote says everything.

By coincidence, the family spotted Roan at the hotel restaurant during breakfast. According to Frello, his daughter did nothing more dramatic than walk past the singer’s table to see if it was really her. No selfie request. No shrieking. Just a kid doing a casual double-take over her morning meal.

That’s where things went sideways. A large security guard reportedly approached the family’s table and spoke aggressively to Frello’s wife, insisting she must not allow her daughter to “disrespect” or “harass” the performer. The guard even threatened to file a formal complaint with hotel management — all while the 11-year-old sat right there, terrified and in tears.

Frello, who plays defensive midfielder for Flamengo and boasts nearly 5 million Instagram followers, did not hold back. “Honestly, I don’t know at what point simply walking past a table and looking to see if someone is there can be considered harassment,” he wrote. “He even said he would file a complaint against them with the hotel, while my 11-year-old daughter was sitting there in tears. My daughter was extremely shaken and cried a lot.”

He also made clear that he’s no stranger to public life and the etiquette that comes with it. “I’ve lived with football, public exposure, and well-known people for many years, and I understand very well what respect and boundaries are. What happened there was not that. It was just a child admiring someone,” he wrote.

His closing remarks landed like a penalty kick to the chest. “It was just a child admiring someone. It’s sad to see this kind of treatment coming from those who should understand the importance of fans. At the end of the day, they are the ones who build all of this,” he wrote, before going full caps lock on Roan directly: “WITHOUT YOUR FANS, YOU WOULD BE NOTHING. AND TO THE FANS, SHE DOES NOT DESERVE YOUR AFFECTION.”

Roan’s representatives did not respond to requests for comment from multiple outlets, including Variety, Billboard, and The Hollywood Reporter. Silence is, of course, a choice.

The timing here is hard to ignore. This comes amid intensifying scrutiny of Roan’s relationship with public attention. The singer recently went viral during a trip to Paris, where she was filmed confronting paparazzi and autograph seekers, telling them, “I’m being disregarded as a human… I’ve asked these people several times to get away from me.”

Look — celebrity boundaries are real and valid, and Roan has every right to advocate for her own. But there’s a wide canyon between setting personal limits and having your security team reduce a child fan to tears for glancing across a hotel dining room. One is self-preservation. The other is something else entirely.

Roan took the Lollapalooza Brazil stage Saturday night (March 21, 2026) as planned. Her security team’s breakfast conduct, it seems, was not part of the rehearsal.
