Comedian Kathy Griffin has announced she was diagnosed with stage one lung cancer despite never smoking.

Griffin, 60, posted about the diagnosis Monday (Aug. 02, 2021) as she was preparing for surgery to have half of her left lung removed.

In her tweet, she wrote, โ€œThe doctors are very optimistic as it is stage one and contained to my left lung. Hopefully no chemo or radiation after this and I should have normal function with my breathing.โ€

โ€œI should be up and running around as usual in a month or less,โ€ she wrote. itโ€™s been a helluva 4 years, trying to get back to work,โ€ while dealing with backlash from her infamous shoot mocking former President Donald Trump, โ€œmaking you guys laugh and entertaining you, but Iโ€™m gonna be just fine.โ€ She also lost her mom in March 2020, sharing at the time, โ€œI am gutted. She was my best friend.โ€

She went on to encourage people to stay up to date on medical check-ups.

Griffin added on her latest post, โ€œOf course I am fully vaccinated for COVID. The consequences for being unvaccinated would have been even more serious. Please stay up to date on your medical check ups. Itโ€™ll save your life.โ€

Get well soon, Kathy. We love you!
