This discussion emerged during a heartfelt conversation with guest Whoopi Goldberg, who shared her own significant weight loss achievement through the use of the Type II diabetes drug Mounjaro.
Clarkson, 42, highlighted that her choice to explore medical options came after noticing concerning changes in her health indicators. “My doctor chased me for two years, and I was like, ‘No, I’m afraid of it. I already have thyroid problems,’” the “Since U Been Gone” singer said.
“Everybody thinks it’s Ozempic — it’s not — it’s something else, but it’s something that aids in helping break down the sugar. Obviously, my body doesn’t do it right.” The motivation, she noted, was a critical analysis from her doctor regarding her body’s sugar metabolization, reflecting on the necessity of external aid for health improvement.
The moment of realization for Clarkson came unexpectedly as she reviewed footage from an upcoming concert special. The sight prompted a profound reaction, leading her to question her own health. “We were in my house in New York like watching,” the 42-year-old said, “and then all of a sudden I paused and I was like, ‘Who the f–k is that?’ I swear to god, it sounds insane. You see it. And you’re like, ‘Well, she about to die of a heart attack,” Clarkson recounted, emphasizing her once 203-pound weight did not coincide with feelings of unhappiness or depression, dismantling assumptions about emotional distress correlating with body weight.
“I looked at my manager who’s known me for over 15 years,” she recalled, “and she was like, ‘I know I’m kind of shocked as you.’ And I think because your people are with you the whole time, so it’s gradual. You don’t even realize.”
