Kendra Duggar Arrested on Child Endangerment and False Imprisonment Charges Days After Husband Joseph’s Sex Abuse Arrest

The former 19 Kids and Counting family is back in the headlines — and this time, it's not just Joseph facing the law.

Summary

  • Kendra Duggar was arrested March 20 in Arkansas and charged with four counts each of second-degree child endangerment and false imprisonment, just two days after husband Joseph Duggar’s arrest.
  • Joseph Duggar faces those same new Arkansas charges on top of existing Florida charges for allegedly molesting a then-9-year-old girl during a 2020 family vacation — crimes he reportedly admitted to.
  • The Arkansas charges against both Duggars are separate from Joseph’s Florida case; both have been given April 29 court dates.

Just two days after Joseph Duggar was hauled in on child sex abuse charges, his wife, Kendra Duggar, 27, was arrested by Tontitown police on misdemeanor state charges, including four counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor and four counts of second-degree false imprisonment.

Kendra was booked into the Washington County Detention Center at 4:56 p.m. Friday (March 20, 2026) and released on $1,470 bond at 6:19 p.m. Getting out inside of two hours on a relatively modest bond is the kind of detail that feels almost mundane — until you zoom out and look at the full picture.

A warrant for her arrest had been issued earlier Friday, and local outlet KARK-TV reported that police arrived at the Duggar family compound in Washington County with the warrant — but she was not home at the time. She was later taken into custody.

Joseph, meanwhile, isn’t just dealing with the Arkansas charges. He was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of child sexual abuse that authorities say occurred in Florida, and is now facing those same new Arkansas charges in addition to awaiting extradition to Florida related to the sex crimes accusations.

The Florida case is alarming in its detail. A 14-year-old girl participated in a forensic interview where she disclosed several incidents involving Duggar that occurred during a 2020 family vacation in Panama City Beach, Florida, when she was 9 years old. The girl reported Duggar repeatedly asked her to sit on his lap. As the vacation continued, he also asked her to sit next to him on a couch and covered them with a blanket, at which time Duggar manipulated the victim’s underwear and grazed her genitals. Duggar also continued to rub his hands on her thighs.

The victim stated Duggar eventually apologized for his actions and the incidents stopped after the apology.

That apology didn’t stay private. Investigators discovered the victim’s father confronted Duggar about these incidents on March 17, 2026. Duggar admitted his actions to the victim’s father and to Tontitown detectives.

On Friday, Joseph Duggar waived his right to an extradition hearing. Bay County, Florida, authorities have 30 days to transfer Joseph Duggar from the jail in Washington County, Arkansas.

Crucially, police say the Duggars’ Arkansas charges are unrelated to Joseph’s Florida case. That means there’s a separate, ongoing investigation swirling around the couple — one that authorities aren’t offering much detail on yet. The sheriff’s office said in a statement, “To protect the integrity of the investigation and the privacy of those involved, no further details will be provided at this time.”

Both Kendra and Joseph Duggar were given April 29 court dates in Elm Springs District Court.

Joseph and Kendra have been married since September 2017 and are parents to four children. The child endangerment charge — specifically tied to their own minor children — is the thread investigators haven’t fully unspooled yet, which makes it the most unsettling part of an already deeply troubling story.

The Tontitown Police Department stated, “This matter is being handled with the highest level of professionalism, compassion, and diligence.”

For anyone who watched the Duggar family navigate the fallout from Josh Duggar‘s scandals — Josh was convicted on December 9, 2021, of possessing child pornography and was sentenced to 12½ years in federal prison — this week has a grimly familiar weight to it. The family’s 19 Kids and Counting brand was built on the image of a God-fearing, wholesome household. TLC canceled the show in 2015 after it became public knowledge that Josh Duggar had confessed to molesting four of his sisters and another girl while he was a teenager.

Now, over a decade later, another Duggar family chapter is being written — and it’s no less devastating.
