Kevin Bacon, the beloved star of Footloose, recently decided to take a walk in the shoes of an everyday person, only to find himself yearning for the perks of his famous life.

In a candid interview with Vanity Fair, Bacon shared his adventure of going incognito with an elaborate disguise that included fake teeth, an altered nose, and glasses. Despite his efforts, blending in proved challenging due to his long-standing notoriety in Hollywood, built over an impressive four-decade career.

“I’m not complaining, but I have a face that’s pretty recognizable,” Bacon admitted. “Putting my hat and glasses on is only going to work to a certain extent.”

Determined, Bacon enlisted the help of a special effects makeup artist to craft a convincing prosthetic disguise. His new look resembled the shady character he plays in the upcoming horror film MaXXXine, set to be released on July 5. In the film, set in the 1980s, Bacon portrays a private investigator navigating a slasher scenario.

The 65-year-old actor took his disguise for a test run at The Grove LA, a bustling outdoor mall in Los Angeles, where he successfully blended in with the crowd. “Nobody recognized me,” he shared.

However, the experience wasn’t as fulfilling as he had hoped. “People were kind of pushing past me, not being nice,” he recalled. “Nobody said, ‘I love you.’ I had to wait in line to, I don’t know, buy a coffee or whatever.”

Bacon quickly realized that the anonymity wasn’t for him. “I was like, ‘This sucks. I want to go back to being famous,’” he confessed.

Having appeared in films since his debut in National Lampoon’s Animal House in 1978, Bacon is evidently well-adjusted to the privileges of his celebrity status. This brief foray into normalcy only reinforced his appreciation for the life he’s accustomed to.
