In a surprising move, the renowned Manhattan law firm Grubman, Shire, Meiselas & Sacks (GSM&S) has cut ties with rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs. Known for representing major figures in the music industry, the firm made this decision several months ago, according to an exclusive statement given to Page Six.
“The decision to part ways with Mr. Combs was proactively made by the partners in the firm a number of months ago as they felt it was the right thing to do,” a spokesperson for GSM&S revealed.
Rumors have circulated that Lady Gaga urged the firm to drop Combs, who is currently facing numerous sexual assault allegations, threatening to leave if they did not comply.
However, the firm denies these claims. “The report that the decision was the result of client pressure just isn’t true,” the spokesperson told The Post. An unnamed insider had previously told The Post that the “Poker Face” singer warned the firm she would leave if they continued to represent Combs. Yet another source close to Gaga refuted this, saying, “that convo never happened.”
The primary reason for severing ties, according to a source speaking to Page Six, was indeed the assault allegations against Combs.
Combs was a long-standing client of GSM&S, having been with the firm for over 20 years. He had a notable friendship with the firm's legendary lawyer Allen Grubman, often visiting Grubman's Hamptons residence before his fall from grace, as reported by The Post
The firm reportedly feared that losing Gaga could spark an exodus of their other high-profile clients. GSM&S boasts an impressive roster, including Elton John, Barbra Streisand, Lil Nas X, The Weeknd, Madonna, U2, and Drake.
In recent times, Combs has faced significant backlash following allegations of severe misconduct. Mayor Eric Adams even revoked Combs’ key to New York City, less than three weeks after a shocking video showing the rapper beating his ex surfaced, as reported by The Post. Adams returned the key after sending a letter to Combs on June 4, according to Fabien Levy, the deputy mayor for communications.
In response to the mounting allegations and public fallout, Combs recently wiped his Instagram account.
