Former One Direction star Liam Payne has passed away at 31 after a tragic fall from his hotel room in Argentina, according to local police reports.
The beloved English singer was staying at the CasaSur hotel in Buenos Aires’ Palermo neighborhood when the incident occurred.
Payne rose to fame as part of One Direction, joining the group in 2010 after his appearance on “X Factor.” The band, which included Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson, captured hearts worldwide.
Following One Direction’s hiatus in 2015, Payne embarked on a solo career. He released the hit single “Strip That Down” in 2017 and his debut album LP1 in 2019, showcasing his individual talent.
In a candid 2023 YouTube video, Payne opened up about his journey to sobriety, revealing he had spent nearly 100 days in a Louisiana rehab facility. At 29, he reflected on regaining control of his life, saying he had “more of a grip on life” after taking time for self-improvement.
The singer spoke warmly about focusing his energy on being a better father to his son, Bear, whom he shared with singer Cheryl Cole.
This March, Payne released “Teardrops,” a song he described on Instagram as “born from many tears, not all mine.” He added, “I hope you love it like I do and not too many of you can relate.”
