A recent autopsy report shed light Thursday (Oct. 17, 2024) on the tragic passing of Liam Payne, the former One Direction heartthrob who fell from his hotel balcony in Buenos Aires. The report stated he died “from multiple traumas and internal and external bleeding.”

The National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office N°14 released these findings a day after Payne’s untimely death in Argentina’s capital. While the exact circumstances are still under investigation, the office noted that “everything indicates that the musician was alone when the fall occurred, and was going through some kind of outbreak due to substance abuse.”

On Wednesday (Oct. 16, 2024), emergency responders shared that the 31-year-old English singer had fallen about 43 to 46 feet from a balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel onto an internal patio.

Media outlets obtained audio of the hotel’s head receptionist calling authorities shortly before Payne’s fall, saying staff needed help with “a guest who has had too much drugs and alcohol.”

“He is in a room with a balcony and we’re a little afraid that he might do something that would put his life at risk,” the receptionist told the emergency operator.

There have been conflicting reports as to whether he possibly jumped or if he was semi-conscious or unconscious when he fell from his balcony.

A police official in Buenos Aires told The Associated Press Liam “had jumped from the balcony of his room.”

According to the preliminary autopsy issued by government officials, the fall resulted in multiple injuries including “internal and external hemorrhage.” The toxicology report is still pending.

However, “No injuries were observed that would suggest the involvement of third parties,” the translated autopsy obtained by Us Weekly reads. “The prosecutor’s office indicated that, based on the position in which the body was found and the injuries from the fall, it is presumed that Payne did not adopt a reflexive posture to protect himself and may have fallen in a state of semi or total unconsciousness.”

There is a widely shared fan theory that suggests that Payne got into an altercation with the hotel’s attendants after being denied entry to the pool due to his state, deciding to leap into the pool from his room in defiance.

“He was freaking out in the lobby because they said he was too intoxicated to be let into the pool,” a user alleged. “If he was as wasted as he allegedly was, then he was in no position to be judging distances or sticking any landings, and way too confident in his abilities.”

His One Direction bandmate Loius Tomlinson posted the following on Instagram:

“I am beyond devastated to be writing this but yesterday I lost a brother. Liam was somebody I looked up to everyday, such a positive, funny, and kind soul.”

He continued, “I feel beyond lucky to have had you in my life but I’m really struggling with the idea of saying goodbye. I’m so grateful that we got even closer since the band, speaking on the phone for hours reminiscing about all the thousands of amazing memories we had together is a luxury I thought I’d have with you for life. I would have loved to share the stage with you again but it wasn’t to be.”

He went on to promise to be a great uncle to Payne’s 7-year-old son, Bear, and tell the little one “stories of how amazing his dad was.”

He concluded, “I wish I got chance to say goodbye and tell you one more time how much I loved you. Payno, my boy, one of my best friends, my brother, I love you mate. Sleep well X.”

Zayn Malik has posted an emotional tribute to his former One Direction bandmate, Liam Payne, who died after a fatal fall in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Wednesday, October 16.

“Liam, I have found myself talking out loud to you, hoping you can hear me, I can’t but think selfishly that there was so many more conversations for us to have in our lives,” he began his emotional post, which included a sweet photo of the two during their One Direction days. “I never got to thank you for supporting me through some of the most difficult times in my life.

He explained that even though Liam was younger, he was always “more sensible” than Zayn, as well as “headstrong, opinionated and gave no f—ks about telling people when they were wrong.”

The “Pillowtalk” singer revealed that even though that quality often caused them to have “butted heads,” he admits he always “secretly respected” Liam for it.

“When it came to the music Liam, you were the most qualified in every sense,” he continued. “I knew nothing in comparison, I was a novice child with no experience and you were already a professional. I was always happy to know, no matter what happened on stage we could always rely on you to know which way to steer the ship next.”

Zayn continued to explain that he “lost a brother” and wishes he could’ve given him one last hug and “say goodbye to you properly and tell you that I loved and respected you dearly.”

He ended the post with, “I will cherish all the memories I have with you in my heart forever, there is no words that justify or explain how I feel right now other than beyond devastated. I hope that wherever you are right now you are good and are at peace and you know how loved you are. Love you bro.”

Harry Styles shared his own emotional tribute to his former One Direction bandmate Liam Payne on Thursday. “I am truly devastated by Liam’s passing,” Styles wrote on Instagram Thursday. “His greatest joy was making other people happy, and it was an honour to be alongside him as he did it.

He continued, “Liam lived wide open, with his heart on his sleeve, he had an energy for life that was infectious. He was warm, supportive, and incredibly loving. The years we spent together will forever remain among the most cherished years of my life. I will miss him always, my lovely friend. My heart breaks for Karen, Geoff, Nicola and Ruth, his son Bear, and all those around the world who knew and loved him, as I did.”
