Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are back to swap bodies in Freaky Friday 2 as production begins on the sequel

Get ready to relive the magic! Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are back in action as they begin filming the much-anticipated sequel to Disney’s 2003 comedy hit, Freaky Friday. Fans can mark their calendars, as the film is slated for a theatrical release in 2025.

Production kicked off yesterday (Jun. 24, 2024) in Los Angeles, bringing together an ensemble cast that includes both familiar faces and exciting new additions. Curtis and Lohan are reprising their iconic roles as Tess and Anna Coleman.

Joining them from the original cast are Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao. Newcomers Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan are also set to make their debut.

Announced via a TikTok on the official @disneystudios account, the Freaky Friday sequel promises to pick up years after the original storyline. Now, Anna has a daughter of her own and is preparing to welcome a stepdaughter into the family. According to Disney, “As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice.”

Directed by Nisha Ganatra, the film boasts a talented production team, including Kristin Burr, Andrew Gunn, and Jamie Lee Curtis as producers. Nathan Kelly, Ann Marie Sanderlin, and Lindsay Lohan are on board as executive producers, ensuring that fans will get the high-quality sequel they’ve been waiting for.
