Amira Jazeera Luv U Down

How did you get your start in music?

I started making music in 2013 as a hobby after school. I would produce beats and record covers on Garageband and would even write original songs and upload them to my Soundcloud. In 2018 I moved to Chicago to officially start my career as Amira Jazeera and met producers and networked with creatives in the city and ever since then itโ€™s been laser focus.

What was the inspiration for โ€œLuv U Downโ€?

ย โ€œLuv U Downโ€ came from listening to the โ€œControlโ€ album by Janet Jackson in 2023. I made this very synthy-dreamy beat and showed it to my new friend at the time Carolina a/k/a Chillona, and we had a writing session in my bedroom studio and thatโ€™s how the song came to life!ย

What are you hoping people take away from your music?

I hope that my music can bring some joy, inspiration and healing. A lot of my songs are personal, like diary entries. I use writing music as a coping mechanism with the state of the world, itโ€™s a way to escape. A way to heal my inner child who wanted so badly to see someone like myself. I hope that it shows other Arab girls in the diaspora that we can be in these spaces just as much as everyone else

Whatโ€™s next for you?

My debut album is coming this Spring and Itโ€™s been 3 years in the making!ย After that, world dominationโ€ฆhaha.

Who are your influences?

I grew up listening to a lot of 80s pop music through my mom. She would listen to a lot of Mariah Carey, Madonna and Janet Jackson. I was also a huge One Direction and Ariana Grande fan in middle school. My influences now for current artists would be SZA, Snoh Aalegra & Victoria Monet

Whatโ€™s your biggest pet peeve?

  1. Someone rushing me, I like to take my time!ย
  2. Crumbs in the bed, ew.
  3. When Iโ€™m wearing a winter coat and my purse strap keeps falling

What is your most cherished possession?

Probably my Diary, I use it for everything! I write about my day, my to-do list, grocery list, and every year I write down my manifestations/goals I want to accomplish.ย

Who would you want to play you in a movie of your life?

Maybe Bella Hadid? Hopefully by the time thereโ€™s a movie about my life there will be more Palestinian-American representation in Hollywood.ย

What superpower or talent would you like to wake up with tomorrow?

The ability to fly would be sick!ย

What are 3 things you canโ€™t live without?

Music obviously, my diary and my cat Falafel.ย

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Perfect happiness is not a realistic expectation if we are being honest but the things that make me the most happy is spending time with my loved ones, the feeling I get when I write a song from my heart, being on stage and feeling seen by my fans and being able to live my dreams.ย ย

โ€œLuv U Downโ€ will be available on Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer on February 7th, but you can pre-save it now.ย  Keep up with Amira on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and Twitter.
