Kamala Harris has clearly emerged as the entertainment industry’s favorite in this election, with recent campaign rallies featuring big names like Bruce Springsteen, Eminem, Julia Roberts, and Spike Lee. But Donald Trump just gained a news Hollywood supporter: Mel Gibson. In a new video TMZ shared Thursday night (Oct. 24, 2024), Gibson briefly chatted with a cameraman while heading to airport security.
“I don’t think it’s going to surprise anyone who I vote for,” Gibson said. After thinking for a moment, the cameraman guessed, “I’m gonna guess Trump. Is that a bad guess?”
“I think that’s a pretty good guess,” Gibson replied. “I know what it’ll be like if we let her in. And that ain’t good. Miserable track record. No policies to speak of. She’s got the IQ of a fence post.”
It is no surprise that he is a Donald Trump fan, but I still do not understand how Mel Gibson is a working actor and director. He’s such a vile man.
Gibson, once a top box office draw and Oscar-winning director for Braveheart, hasn’t been very vocal about politics lately. However, he was seen saluting former President Trump at a UFC event in 2021. Gibson’s dig at Harris echoes Trump’s frequent attacks, where he often calls her a “low IQ” candidate during campaign appearances.

Earlier this year, Trump showed some love for Gibson on Truth Social. He shared a meme with pictures of a clean-cut Gibson and his rugged Braveheart look, captioned “Me voting for Trump” in 2016 and 2024. Trump added, “Either way, Mel Gibson is GREAT!”
After directing hits like The Passion of the Christ and Apocalypto, Gibson stepped back from Hollywood following a 2006 DUI arrest where he went on an anti-Semitic rant. In 2010, leaked tapes revealed more racist comments by Gibson, including slurs, directed at his then-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva. She later accused him of physical abuse.

After laying low for a while, Gibson returned to acting regularly. He made a comeback in 2016 with the war drama Hacksaw Ridge, which earned him an Oscar nomination for directing. The film also received nods for best picture and best actor for Andrew Garfield.
