Priyanka Chopra has no time for anyone accusing her of “encouraging a nuclear war” and she doesn’t care who knows it.
The Indian actress was confronted about a tweet while speaking at a Beautycon event in Los Angeles a few days ago.
Audience member Ayesha Malik called Priyanka a “hypocrite” for promoting peace as a Unicef Goodwill Ambassador while seemingly encouraging war between the two countries.
“So it was kind of hard hearing you talk about humanity because as your neighbor, a Pakistani, I know you’re a bit of a hypocrite. You tweeted on February 26, ‘Jai Hind #IndianArmedForces’,” Ayesha began.
Priyanka’s tweet means “long live India” or “hail India”.
The 37-year-old shared the post the same day that an Indian fighter jet bombed an alleged terrorist training camp in Pakistan.
Ayesha eventually had the mic taken away from her but not before she told Priyanka how disappointed she was.
“You are a Unicef ambassador for peace and you are encouraging nuclear war against Pakistan. As a Pakistani, millions of women like me have supported you in your business…”
Priyanka remained calm throughout the confrontation and even received applause from the audience.
“I hear you. Whenever you are done venting. Got it? Done?… I have many, many friends from Pakistan and I am from India. War is not something I’m really fond of but I am patriotic, so I’m sorry if I hurt sentiments to people who do love me and have loved me,” she said.
Priyanka added that she did not like the way the woman approached her about the matter.
“But I think that all of us have a sort of, a middle ground that we all have to walk. Just like you probably do as well. The way that you came at me right now, girl, don’t yell. We’re all here for love.”
Priyanka’s response received a mixed reaction, with some applauding her for keeping her cool, while others felt she belittled Ayesha.
