Rihanna‘s fifth Diamond Ball was held in New York City Thursday night (September 12, 2019) in honor of her Clara Lionel Foundation, and major celebrities like Cardi B, A$AP Rocky, Megan Thee Stallion, and Normani were spotted on the red carpet.
The ball which came just days after her Savage X Fenty show at NYFW was a huge hit and saw everybody from supermodels to singers in attendance.
Rihanna looked flawless as she wore a black dress, which featured a white puffed out skirt at the bottom, from Givenchy Haute Couture.
The style icon stopped to speak with Essence about what it means to be a black woman.
“I’m a black woman. I come from a black woman who came from a black woman, who came from a black woman and I’m going to give birth to a black woman … and so it’s a no brainer,” the Barbados native said.
“That’s who I am, the core of who I am, in spirit and in DNA, and I’ll always stand up for what I believe in and who I love and who I know, who I respect.”
Rihanna went on to give props to her mother for raising her to be strong and gave props to all women of color who display Black Girl Magic on a daily basis. “My mother raised me to be an incredible woman. She’s a strong, incredible example of what to be and how to fight through obstacles in life and I’m sure her mom has also taught her. And that’s how I’m going to be. We’re impeccable. We are impeccable, we’re special, and the world is going to have to deal with that.”
