Actor Rupert Evans is joining the cast of Bridgerton in Season 2 to play the Bridgerton siblings’ late father Edmund Bridgerton, Deadline reported.
The 44-year-old Charmed and The Man in the High Castle actor is set to take on the role in the Netflix series after the first season teased a storyline involving the character in its final image of a bee on a windowsill. His character died at age 38 due to an allergic reaction following a bee sting.
More on his character, “Evans’ Edmund is a loving and devoted husband, whose true love match with Violet Bridgerton gave them eight perfect children. He’s also an endlessly patient and kind father, who takes special pride in guiding his eldest son Anthony through life.”
The second season is now in production in London, England, and will focus on Anthony Bridgerton’s (Jonathan Bailey) quest for love as written in the second book from Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series The Viscount Who Loved Me.
Bridgerton‘s second season — which will not include Regé-Jean Page as the Duke of Hastings — centers on Anthony’s (Jonathan Bailey) quest for a bride, with Sex Education‘s Simone Ashley playing his leading lady in the upcoming episodes. Shelley Conn (Terra Nova) and Calam Lynch (Mrs. Wilson) have also joined the Season 2 ensemble.
Netflix has also picked up a Bridgerton spinoff limited series based on the origins of Queen Charlotte (played on the flagship series by Golda Rosheuvel). Written by Rhimes, the series will center on the rise and love life of a young Queen Charlotte and tell the stories of young Violet Bridgerton and Lady Danbury.
