Margot Robbie’s Barbie has found her Ken. According to Deadline, the upcoming live-action Barbie movie featuring Robbie in the lead role has locked down Ryan Gosling to co-star as Ken, who’s had many plastic dolls of his own made over the years.
Gosling is reportedly in final negotiations with Warner Bros. to play the live-action Ken. Gosling initially passed on taking on the part because his schedule was already busy. However, as pre-production dragged out and the studio was adamant with him being their only choice, an opening in his schedule appeared, allowing him to star in the movie.
Gosling will star opposite Robbie, who signed on to portray the title character in early January 2019, after other actresses, Amy Schumer and Anne Hathaway, who were previously cast in the lead role, departed the project. The Wolf of Wall Street star is also set to produce the movie under her LuckyChap Entertainment banner.

“Playing with Barbie promotes confidence, curiosity and communication throughout a child’s journey to self-discovery,” Robbie said in a statement at the time. “Over the brand’s almost 60 years, Barbie has empowered kids to imagine themselves in aspirational roles from a princess to president.”
Greta Gerwig is directing Barbie using a screenplay co-written with Noah Baumbach. No plot details have been revealed, but what’s known is that the movie is based on the popular doll line owned by Mattel.
This is one of many upcoming movies in development based on popular children’s toys. It’s also been reported that a Polly Pocket movie is in the works with Lily Collins lined up to play the famous toy. Mattel is also planning movies on other toys like Hot Wheels, Magic 8-Ball, Uno, and even Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots.
