This is how Blake Lively feels about the It Ends With Us backlash

It Ends With Us has been a mixed bag for Blake Lively, the movie's star and co-producer. Based on Colleen Hoover‘s bestseller, the film is a box office hit and Lively's highest-grossing movie. But instead of boosting her career, the press tour seems to have hurt her reputation.

Rumors of an on-set clash with director/co-star Justin Baldoni and some poorly received marketing moves have caused issues. Now, a source says Lively is “upset” about how things turned out. No surprise there.

“She initially felt very vulnerable and upset,” an unnamed source told People about a month after the movie's premiere. “During the promotion of the movie, not one day went by when she was not in the news in an unfavorable light. She's just not used to this kind of drama.”

The insider added that Lively was “pretty surprised at the backlash and drama” and that the story “felt out of control to her.” Before this, Lively's biggest controversy was probably her and Ryan Reynolds‘ choice to have their wedding on a former plantation. This didn't cause much fuss, as it's not a huge deal by Hollywood standards, and they apologized.

Lively herself hasn't spoken about any of the IEWU-related uproar except for a post about domestic violence that seemed to address the talk. Her co-star, Brandon Sklenar, did stand up for her and all the women involved in the movie.

The source also clarified that Lively, who's been laying low and off social media lately, isn't giving up. She's got A Simple Favor 2 coming up, and she “enjoys working and will continue to push forward projects that she's excited about.” If she'd saved the hair care brand promo for the ASF2 press tour, it might have been a big hit. That movie's perfect for tie-in promos.
