Hello, hello, hello! Welcome to The Week in Drag, our weekly recap of news and updates from the drag universe.
We just crowned our season 13 queen and have just met the reinas from Spain on Ru’s latest international offering as well as the Aussie queens competing to be the Drag Race Down Under champion. Our favorite Ru-cappers are here to share their thoughts on the finale fashions and performances, and we catch up with our newest champion, Symone, who shows us how she gets her regal look.
If you’re a Trixie Mattel fan, you’re in luck as she launched a new cosmetic collection and released a new EP and video – as well as recorded videos with wig wizardress Jaymes Mansfield and her Netflix binge buddy Katya. We’ve got lots to cover so, as always, et’s bring it to the runway!
The season 13 top 4 (Kandy Muse, Gottmik, Symone and Rosé) watch the finale together and react to Symone’s victory in this awesome video. What a great top 4 and a great (but loooong) season.
Trixie Mattel invites her “UNHhhh” co-host Katya to “The Pit Stop” to discuss the highs and lows of the finale.
Raja and Raven toot and boot the eliminated queen’s fashions, the top 4’s ball looks and lots more on “Fashion Photo Ruview.”
Bob the Drag Queen and Monét X Change share their sometimes raw, always honest opinions on the fashions and lip syncs on the latest “Sibling Watchery.”
Season 11 champion Yvie Oddly recaps the finale looks with Yuhua Hamasaki on “Bootleg Opinions.”
The dazzling Symone takes us through her beauty routine – from skin care to makeup – in this Vogue video where she recreates her to 4 eleganza look.
Crystal Methyd, last season’s 1st runner-up, makes her own short and sweet “Losing is the New Winning” message to her season 13 counterpart, Kandy Muse.
With season 13 (finally) in the her-story books, we now look ahead to Ru’s two newest international spin-offs. We’ve already talked about Drag Race Down Under and now, we get to meet the queens for the premiere season of Drag Race España, which is set to debut exclusively on WOW Presents Plus in the US. The ten fierce Spanish queens competing for the coveted title of Spain’s First Drag Superstar are: Hugaceo Crujiente, Pupi Poisson, Inti, Dovima Nurmi, Sagittaria, Carmen Farala, Killer Queen, Vulcano, Arantxa Castilla La Mancha and The Macarena. Well-known Spanish drag performer Supremme de Luxe is taking over for Ru as host and head judge for the panel. Joining her will be the creative duo Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi who were the team responsible for the amazing HBO Max series Veneno. Designer Ana Locking will round out the panel. Guest judges include Veneno star Paca La Piraña and model and actor Jon Kortajarena, who recently appeared in Netflix’s Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.
If you miss seeing your favorite queens perform, rejoice! Coming up this month, for two fierce weekends, is PEG Presents: Digital Drag Fest 2021. Trixie just released some new music, with her Full Coverage Volume 1 EP releasing on Friday. The first single off the disc is the country-flavored “Jackson” featuring Orville Peck and the accompanying video is a delight.
If you’re looking for a new binge, and you’re into sci-fi and fantasy, you might want to check out Shadow & Bone. Trixie and Katya watch it and take us through some of the series’ most fantastical moments on “I Like to Watch.”
“RuPaul’s Drag Race: Out of the Closet” is back for a 4th season and it kicks off with the always entertaining Katya, who welcomes us into her West Hollywood studio to share stories and show off some of her standout fashions, including her swim-themed latex gown from All-Stars.
I do love a good makeover video, and I love seeing queens swap looks, and this video accomplishes both. Crystal Methyd makes over her season 11 sister Nicky Doll and effectively “crystal-izes” her.
Another queen who has been keeping us entertained on YouTube, Jaymes Mansfield, shows how she painted her face for her photo shot with Trixie for her “Bottle Blonde” makeup collection.
Trixie and Jaymes take us through the beautiful hues in the new eyeshadow palette and lip glosses and have a kiki talking about early days working together in Milwaukee, recalling beauty salon drama and sharing wig wisdom.
Trixie isn’t the only cosmetic queen. Jaymes showcases the colors from another Ru girl’s collection. Watch her create a beautiful face with products from the Christian Audette x Gigi Goode line.
We can’t feature Jaymes videos without a wig makeover! Her latest creation is truly magic as the Princess Leia wig she starts with is truly tragic.
Nikkie (of NikkieTutorials) gets the Gottmik treatment from the queen herself as the pair get ready together. Does everybody look amazing in Mik’s trademark white face, or is it just me? Nikkie looks fabulous as “Gottnik”.
Another queen with an iconic face is Juno Birch. Super queen Rock M Sakura recreates Juno’s signature blue look in her latest video.
The fierce Widow VonDu gets grilled by Jonny McGovern on the latest episode of “Hey Qween!”
Aiden Zhane is the latest queen to hit YouTube and is asking fans for content suggestions. I, for one, like the idea of her reviewing horror movies (I’ve been burned so many times by Netflix and Hulu.)
And with that, we wrap up another installment of the Week in Drag – and I leave you with Drag Race UK queens A’Whora, Bimini Bon Boulash and Tayce bringing the glam to the Little Mix video for “Confetti”. With the Australian season kicking off this weekend, I’m sure we will have plenty to report next week. Until we meet again, stay healthy, stay safe, get vaccinated and say LOVE!
