Fans of the hit series White Collar have reason to celebrate, as series creator Jeff Eastin announced in Los Angeles on Thursday that a reboot of the popular police procedural is officially in development.
“We’re gonna reboot. I’m writing the script,” Eastin told Variety. He was joined at the television industry event by stars Matt Bomer, Tim DeKay, and Tiffany Thiessen—all of whom are expected to reprise their roles.
“I’m in!” Bomer enthusiastically said.
DeKay added, “It’s a fantastic script and it answers all the questions that one would have if you watch the show. It will also introduce the show to those who haven’t seen it as well. Both edges of the sword are honed.”
The reboot will also pay tribute to the late Willie Garson, who portrayed the beloved character Mozzie. Garson passed away in 2021.
“With such sensitivity and such heart,” Thiessen said about the planned tribute. “I told Jeff after I finished reading it, I literally was so excited but at the same time had tears in my eyes—for good reason. You captured the suspense, the thrill, the characters, and the love in that reboot.”
As of now, there is no official word on where the new version will be available, though it has been rumored that Hulu will be its new home, given that the series is owned by Disney’s 20th Television. Originally produced for NBCU’s USA Network from 2009 to 2014 by Fox TV Studios, the series' reboot script is currently in early development at 20th Television.
The existing White Collar library is available on Hulu, and the previous seasons can also be streamed on Netflix. Another USA Network series, Suits, gained significant popularity over the past summer.
Bomer and Eastin began discussions about a potential White Collar revival back in 2020 during a charity cast reunion on the Stars In the House YouTube channel. “There is nothing I would want more than to be on a set with this group of people again,” said Bomer, who organized the reunion. “There are real conversations happening. There seems to be a lot of excitement about it.”
In a 2023 interview, Bomer addressed the emotional challenge of moving forward without Garson.
“Obviously, that’s the first thing that came to my mind, but I felt that what Jeff Eastin presented to Tim and I honors what he contributed to the show and honors him as a person,” Bomer explained. “There’s no way I would ever be involved with it again if it didn’t do so. So I think it’s a way for him to, in some ways, still be a part of the show.”
