Welp. That didn’t take long. Armie Hammer has dropped out of Shotgun Wedding, in which he was set to star with Jennifer Lopez, amid a social media firestorm about what the actor calls “bullshit claims” about him.

“Given the imminent start date of Shotgun Wedding, Armie has requested to step away from the film and we support him in his decision,” a production spokesperson said. The role will be recast.

Hammer’s decision to leave the project comes after leaked messages purporting to detail the star’s sex life, including a supposed interest in cannibalism and rape fantasies, surfaced on an Instagram account under the name House of Effie.

Hammer is disputing the legitimacy of the DMs. “I’m not responding to these bullshit claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for 4 months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic,” the actor said in a statement. “Lionsgate is supporting me in this and I’m grateful to them for that.”

This arrives after Armie’s alleged DMs leaked online, exposing his text messages to women which described graphic accounts of sex acts and cannibalism. “I am 100 per cent a cannibal. I want to eat you,” one message read. Another message alleged that the actor had cut “the heart out of an animal” and ate it. Other screenshots include alleged messages from the actor asking if he can drink people’s blood.

Armie was trending on Twitter following the leaked DMs, with his rumored former flame Jessica Ciencin Henriquez confirming that the leaked DMs are real. “If you are still questioning whether or not those Armie Hammer DMs are real (and they are) maybe you should start questioning why we live in a culture willing to give abusers the benefit of the doubt instead of victims,” she wrote in a now-deleted tweet, adding, “TW// sexual violence.”

Shotgun Wedding is not the only project that Hammer has bowed out of. A few weeks ago Hammer left the star-studded cast of Gaslit, the Sam Esmail-produced Watergate series for UCP, which also stars Julia Roberts, Sean Penn and Joel Edgerton.

The DM scandal is not the only scandal that the actor is dealing with. The Daily Mail obtained videos that are just bizarre. In the first video where states that “shits getting weird,” the actor (sporting a shaved head) is “seen licking a substance out of his friend’s hand, before the man says ‘more, more, more, more’, prompting Hammer to go back and clean off the rest of the man’s hand,” writes the DM. “Got it all,” he says with a grimace.

In the second video, Hammer is again in a car, this time driving alone. With the camera placed on the dashboard, he appears to take his hands off the wheel as he opens a can of Miller Lite. “He then takes a long swig of it and exhales in satisfaction, before saying to the camera, ‘sending love, boys,'” adds the DM.

WFF Armie?
