Following the recent announcement that The Ellen DeGeneres Show is being internally investigated by WarnerMedia over the accusations of bullying and other troubling incidents, Australiaโs former Today show executive Neil Breen opened up about his own experience with the Ellen staff.
During his show on radio station 4BC, Breen revealed how Ellen DeGeneres and her staff made numerous, very specific and in some cases, major concessions the show had to make for Ellenโs visit.

โ[Ellen DeGeneresโ] producers called us aside โฆ and said, โNow, Neil, no one is to talk to Ellen. You donโt talk to her, you donโt approach her, you donโt look at her,'โ said Breen.
Breen also explained how Ellenโs staff already had โwatered downโ her appearance, changing it from her serving as a co-host on the show to just doing an interview โ an interview that she wanted conducted in Melbourne, 443 miles away from where the production of the show was located, requiring the entire Today show to relocate for the day, at their expense.

โSo Richard Wilkins and I went to one of the flashy hotels in Melbourne where this was all set up,โ Breen recounted. โThere were the two of us, and, of course, because itโs The Ellen Show they controlled everything. They controlled the interview seats, the lights, how it would work, everything.โ
โAnd then when Richard and I got there, you know, for our โbrush with fame,โ what did we care? We walk in and then The Ellen Show producers, there was a LOT of them, there was a lot of people there.โ

โAnyway, the producers called us aside and said, like, โHey, this is how itโs going to work here this morning. Ellenโs going to arrive at 10:15 and sheโll be sitting in this chair here and Richard, youโll be sitting in this chair here. Now, Neil, no oneโs to talk to Ellen. So you donโt talk to her, you donโt approach her, you donโt look at her, sheโll come in, sheโll sit down, sheโll talk to Richard, then Ellen will leave.โ I found the whole thing bizarre,โ he added.
โAnd every word she said, these producers would giggle and laugh, and I had asked them to be quiet because we were filming an interview. I said, โCan you sort of not laugh when Ellen saysโฆโ because they laugh at everything she says, right? โCan you not laugh too much because Iโm trying to record it?'โ

โAnyway, Iโm not blaming Ellen, because I didnโt get to talk to her, because I wasnโt allowed to,โ Breen continued. โSo I have no idea whether sheโs a nice person or not, I wouldnโt have a clue. But I can tell you the people who worked with her walked on eggshells the whole time, and the whole thing was totally bizarre.โ
โLike weโre there to do an interview with her to promote what sheโs doing, but you canโt look at her? Like, someone get real.โ
