Katy Perry has unveiled plans for her forthcoming sixth studio album 143, set to debut on September 20.
The pop icon made the revelation on her social media platforms shortly after eagle-eyed fans discovered the album title, artwork, and release date on her official merchandise store. 143 is a numerical code signifying “I love you,” popularized in early 1990s pager communications.
“I set out to create a bold, exuberant, celebratory dance-pop album with the symbolic 143 numerical expression of love as a throughline message,” Perry stated.
The album's lead single, “Woman's World,” is scheduled for release today (Thursday, July 11, 2024) at 7 p.m. ET, with its accompanying video following on July 12. Perry has been teasing snippets of the track since its June announcement on TikTok, igniting discussions on social media regarding her collaboration with Dr. Luke, who helms the song's production.
Further details about the album remain elusive. Perry's previous album, Smile, was released in August 2020. That record spawned several singles, including “Daisies” and the title track, but underperformed compared to her earlier works, debuting at No. 5 on the Billboard 200.
In the interim, Perry embarked on her Las Vegas residency, Play, which ran from 2021 to 2023. The final performance last November hinted at the imminent arrival of her next musical era.
Beyond music, Perry has maintained a high profile as a judge on American Idol for seven seasons. In February, she announced her departure from the show after the 22nd season, concluding her tenure in May.
Last September, Perry made headlines by selling her catalog for $255 million to Litmus Music, a Carlyle-backed venture launched in 2022 that also acquired Keith Urban‘s master recording rights.
