Kim Cattrall gently informed fans that, despite her brief appearance in last year's Season 2 finale, she wouldn't be returning as her beloved Sex and the City character in the upcoming third season of the Max reboot And Just Like That.
After Life & Style claimed earlier this month that Cattrall was negotiating a deal for Season 3, the actress clarified the situation on X.
‘It Looks Like #KimCattrall (aka Samantha Jones) Will Be Back For And Just Like That… Season 3 After All!' one headline stated, to which Cattrall replied, “Aw that's so kind but I'm not.”
Cattrall portrayed the sexually confident publicist Samantha Jones throughout the original HBO show's six seasons from 1998 to 2004 and in the two movie adaptations released in 2008 and 2010.
After discussing her backstage issues with co-star Sarah Jessica Parker, Cattrall chose not to join Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis in And Just Like That…, which debuted in 2021.
Cattrall did treat fans to a quick Samantha cameo in the Season 2 finale last August, following Deadline's report of the appearance in May 2023. The scene showed the character in a car's backseat, talking on the phone with Carrie Bradshaw (Parker), without the actresses ever sharing the screen.
The British-Canadian star revealed one of her conditions for returning to the show during an appearance on The View last June. “It's very interesting to get a call from the head of HBO saying, ‘What can we do?'” she said. “And I went, ‘Hmm… Let me get creative,'” Cattrall continued. “And one of those things was to get [costume designer] Pat Field back because I just thought that if I'm going to come back I gotta come back with that Samantha style, I gotta push it and we did.”
As Field, the original show's costume designer, was occupied with Darren Star's other series Emily in Paris, her former SATC assistants Molly Rogers and Danny Santiago have taken over for the revival.
Season 3 of And Just Like That… is now filming in New York City and is set to premiere on Max in 2025.
