  • Laura Clery, 39, was pinned by a 600-pound fridge while alone with her two young kids
  • It took three firefighters to lift the massive appliance off the social media star
  • Clery is threatening legal action, alleging the fridge was improperly installed by contractors

Social media comedian Laura Clery nearly didn’t make it home in one piece last week, and she wants the world to know exactly what happened.

The 39-year-old comedian and influencer shared a deeply unsettling account of a freak accident in her own home, where a massive 600-pound fridge toppled over and pinned her against a counter, leaving her unable to move or breathe and fearing for her life.

Clery described the ordeal on Instagram as the “most terrifying night of my life as a single mom,” revealing the appliance pinned her against a counter and left her hospitalized with serious injuries.

The comedian admitted her “biggest fear came true” after she was “very seriously hurt and stuck while home alone with my two young kids.”

How the Accident Happened

Clery, who noted her “worst nightmare” was being seriously hurt while she was the only adult in the house with her kids, explained that she has a “massive French door fridge” that is “supposed to be mounted into the wall,” and she saw it starting to shift after her son climbed it.

When she attempted to push it back into place, the situation turned deadly.

The fridge “slammed into me and pinned me against the counter.”

“I could feel it getting harder to inhale, like my body was just slowly deciding to shut down,” she wrote. “And I’m just there, pinned under a fridge, thinking this is the dumbest way anyone has ever died.”

The influencer said she was only able to call 911 because her phone happened to be in her pocket.

Firefighters Saved Her Life

Clery later praised the emergency crew on Instagram, calling them “actual heroes” and thanking the firefighters who allegedly broke through her garage door and lifted the massive appliance off her.

“Thank God it didn’t fall on my kids. It took three firefighters to lift it off me. I’m still shaking,” she wrote.

She shared clips from the rescue on social media, including footage from inside the ambulance. In one video, she jokingly asked firefighters, “So I was crushed by a 600-pound fridge… is that correct?”

In the back of the ambulance, Clery wore a neck brace and praised the first responders who saved her, noting that she had been “crushed” by the massive fridge. “This was right after the fentanyl hit and all of my pain [went] away (instantly),” she wrote.

Her Children Were Home

Clery was home with her children, seven-year-old Alfie and five-year-old Poppy, when the refrigerator suddenly “slammed” into her. The kids were asleep when the nightmare unfolded.

Clery’s ex-husband, Stephen Hilton, also revealed she sent him a frantic message during the ordeal that read, “I’m dying.”

Now She’s Threatening Legal Action

Clery isn’t staying quiet about who she believes is responsible for putting her and her children in danger.

“I want to f#%king sue the contractors who installed this fridge,” Laura wrote, alleging, “This is a nearly 600 pound stainless steel French door fridge that was NOT properly mounted into the wall. Because of that, my 7 year old was able to pull it forward, and when I tried to push it back, it fell on me and was fully crushing me. It nearly killed me. And it could have absolutely killed my child.”

She added pointedly: “This should never have been possible. This was negligence.”

On the Road to Recovery

In a Facebook post shared on May 22, Laura went into more detail about the extent of her injuries. “Feeling so deeply grateful that we’re all okay… and also not okay…” she wrote. “It’s such a weird place to be… feeling overwhelmingly grateful and completely shaken at the same time. My body is wrecked, my lower back is f–ked, but nothing is broken, which feels like a miracle.”

Clery hosts the podcast “IDIOT” and is the author of three books, including the forthcoming “What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Hotter,” described as a collection of essays about “finding the funny even when your life is falling apart.” Given the week she just had, that title feels more fitting than ever.
