Look, we’ve been burned before. But when Lindsey Buckingham posts a social media video cryptically musing about a possible reunion with Stevie Nicks, you don’t just scroll past. You stop. You listen. You may have queued up Rumours for the 400th time. And then you frantically search for answers.
In a new video posted to his Instagram, Buckingham detailed his plans for 2026 — and that may include some type of reunion with Stevie Nicks. He came in cautiously optimistic, telling fans, “I think 2026 is going to be a very interesting — and despite what’s going on in Washington — I think it’s going to be a very good year. Or maybe because of what’s going on in Washington.” The laugh at the end is doing a lot of heavy lifting, Lindsey.
But it was what he said next that sent the internet into full-on Fleetwood Mac frenzy mode.

“I think on a more general level, just the energy in terms of what Buckingham Nicks did to sort of create a resurgence of connection between Stevie and myself, I think on a larger scale, that seems to be something that’s in the air,” he said. “And what that translates to specifically, I wouldn’t want to speculate yet. But I believe with all my heart, it will translate to something good, and something wonderful, and something needed and something extremely appropriate.”
To understand why this is a big deal, you need to remember just how ugly things got. Buckingham was fired from Fleetwood Mac in 2018, reportedly at Nicks’ insistence. The band went on without him. He had heart surgery. Years of silence followed. The whole thing felt very final.

Then, quietly, something shifted. The Buckingham Nicks album — the duo’s self-titled 1973 record, which had never been reissued on CD — finally debuted in the format in 2025. The reissue required the two of them to actually, you know, work together again. And apparently, it went well.
Nicks herself confirmed the thaw in October 2025. “Lindsey and I started talking about [our early days together,” she said. “This whole thing seems really like yesterday to us. Our relationship was up and down and up and down and up and down and difficult, but at the same time, fantastic. And what we were doing was so fantastic that it was worth putting up with the trials and tribulations of a relationship that’s difficult.”
That is — genuinely — one of the more romantic things either of them has ever said about the other, and they once wrote “Go Your Own Way” and “Gold Dust Woman” about each other.

This is the first time Buckingham has addressed any type of 2026 reunion in any capacity, which makes the Instagram video feel significant rather than just routine promo chatter. He also revealed he’s been working on a new solo album for the last couple of years, which is reportedly one song away from being finished, and that a Fleetwood Mac documentary may also arrive this year. A lot of Fleetwood Mac–adjacent energy is circling right now, in other words.
The big question, of course, is what form any possible reunion would actually take. It’s unclear whether it would be a Buckingham Nicks project of some sort or a full Fleetwood Mac reunion tour. Nicks told Rolling Stone in 2024 that she’d never consider a Fleetwood Mac tour after the death of bandmate Christine McVie — but that was prior to her reconciliation with Buckingham. People have been known to change their minds when the right olive branch shows up.

There’s also the not-insignificant matter of timing: next year will mark the 50th anniversary of Rumours, one of the best-selling albums in history. If that’s not a reason to briefly set aside decades of interpersonal drama and get back on stage together, what is?
For now, all we’ve got is a vague but unmistakably warm set of hints from a man who doesn’t do anything accidentally. Buckingham, in his new social media post, said he’s cautious but hopeful. “What that translates to specifically, I wouldn’t want to speculate yet, but I believe with all my heart that it will translate to something good and something wonderful and something needed and something extremely appropriate.”
We’re choosing to read that as a yes. Cautiously, hopefully — and with “The Chain” already on repeat.
