Bryan Tanaka has shared a heartfelt statement regarding his amicable separation from music icon Mariah Carey. In an Instagram post on Tuesday (Dec. 26, 2023), the 40-year-old performer revealed that the decision to part ways was mutual.
Tanaka expressed gratitude for the seven extraordinary years spent together with Carey in a candid message to his friends and fans. He emphasized the profound respect they both share as they embark on separate paths. Reflecting on the invaluable time and memories they created, Tanaka acknowledged the lasting impact of their artistic collaborations, which will forever hold a special place in his heart.
The journey between Carey and Tanaka began in 2006 when he joined the acclaimed singer-songwriter's Adventures of Mimi tour as a backup dancer. Carey herself officially confirmed their romantic relationship during an Associated Press interview in February 2017, following her description of him as her “boyfriend.”
Audiences got an intimate glimpse into their connection through Carey's reality series, Mariah's World. Their love story unfolded after Carey's split with Australian businessman James Packer, her former fiancé.
Rumors about the couple's separation surfaced when Tanaka was noticeably absent from Carey's Merry Christmas One and All! tour in mid-November, as reported by People. The publication also highlighted his absence from the couple's usual holiday celebrations in Aspen, Colo.
At this time, Carey has not released an official statement regarding the breakup.
Tanaka expressed his deep appreciation for Carey's commitment to her family and craft, acknowledging the inspiration she has brought to their shared journey. He extended his love and gratitude to Carey and her wonderful children, whose warmth and kindness have left an indelible mark on his life.
Carey shares 12-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe with her ex-husband Nick Cannon and has yet to comment publicly on the situation.
“Mariah’s dedication to her family and her commitment to her craft have inspired us during out journey,” Tanaka continued in his statement. “I want to express my love and appreciation for Mariah and her incredible children, whose warmth and kindness have enriched my life in ways words cannot capture.”
