Megan Thee Stallion has found herself at the center of a legal storm. Former cameraman Emilio Garcia has brought forth a lawsuit against the star, alleging harassment and an abusive work environment that he claims marred his time working for her from 2018 through June 2023, NBC News reports.
Garcia's distressing allegations include being subjected to an incredibly uncomfortable situation where he says he was forced to witness Megan Thee Stallion, whose legal name is Megan Pete, engaging in sexual acts with another woman while in a vehicle during a trip to Ibiza in 2022. “I felt uncomfortable. I was kind of frozen, and I was shocked,” Garcia recounted to NBC News, expressing his disbelief at the incident happening so openly next to him.
According to Garcia, the aftermath of this incident saw a drastic shift in his professional relationship with the rapper. He claims to have been sworn to silence about the encounter and subsequently subjected to cruel remarks about his weight from Pete, further compounding his discomfort and making his working environment unbearable. Garcia's lawsuit highlights a stark contrast in treatment post-incident, including changes to his compensation structure that significantly lowered his income.
Garcia said he considered leaving his post but was let go by Pete’s label, Roc Nation, on her behalf before he could do so. His suit also mentions that Garcia felt wrongly classified as an independent contractor, which caused him to miss out on healthcare benefits. The suit said he now suffers from “mounting anxiety, depression, and physical distress,” as a result of working for Pete. He is now seeking more than six figures in damages.
This unfolding legal drama layers additional complexity onto the public persona of Megan Thee Stallion, a staunch advocate for body positivity and self-love, challenging fans and observers to reckon with the stark allegations presented by Garcia.
