Still Working 9 to 5

Back before the dark days of COVID, I giddily reported about an upcoming documentary about the classic 1980 workplace comedy 9 to 5. Of course, as with many things we were set to enjoy over the past few years, the documentary, Still Working 9 to 5, was delayed. But happily, I can report that the film is finally making its big premiere at one of the country’s most well-known film festivals.

The documentary explores the success of the film, as well as its Broadway adaptation and TV sitcom as well as takes an in-depth look at what has and has not changed for women in the workplace over the last 40 years. Directors Camille Hardman and Gary Lane interviewed a galaxy of stars for the film, including stars Dolly Parton, Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda and Dabney Coleman, Allison Janney, Megan Hilty and the icon herself, Rita Moreno.

The long-awaited doc will make its world premiere on March 13 at the 2022 SXSW film festival, where it will debut alongside a duet of the film’s memorable theme song from Dolly Parton and Kelly Clarkson. Kelly previously covered the tune for a 2019 promotional video for the launch of The Kelly Clarkson Show. I don’t know about you, but I cannot wait to see this one.
