“Long have I waited,” declares an ominous voice in the final trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and boy do we know the feeling!
It’s been around six long months since Disney/Lucasfilm gave us our first look at the upcoming ninth and supposedly final chapter in the Skywalker saga that creator George Lucas kicked off more than 40 years ago.
Now, on the anniversary of the late, great Carrie Fisher’s death we finally have a new – and our last – preview of the hotly anticipated upcoming film!
The two-minute-long trailer took viewers through the many galaxies of the Star Wars universe while focusing on the battle between the light and dark sides of the Force represented in Daisy Ridley‘s Rey and Adam Driver‘s Kylo Ren.
“People keep telling me they know me,” Ridley's Rey says in the trailer. “No one does.”
The trailer also had some fans in tears. At one point, C-3PO ― the droid who has appeared in every installment of the main episodic series ― utters what some fans thought could be a farewell:
However, it was a single word that brought many tears to fan's eyes. Thanks to previously unused footage shot for The Force Awakens, Carrie Fisher, who died in 2016, will reprise her role as Gen. Leia Organa in the movie, which hits theaters Dec. 20.
She’s shown in the trailer embracing Rey, but doesn’t speak until the end when the voice of an unseen Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) uses the phrase made famous by the franchise.
“The Force will be with you,” he says.
Leia’s voice adds: “Always.”
