She's known as the sweet girl on Gilmore Girls, but now, she is officially dangerous.
Alexis Bledel has been crowned the most dangerous celebrity on the internet for 2019, according to a new survey.
Cybersecurity company McAfee awards the unusual title each year to the celebrity whose name in links is most likely to lead users to websites containing viruses and malware.
The second most dangerous celebrity in the hunt for online gossip was British comedian and actor and host of the Late Late Night talk show, James Corden OBE.
Threat actors setting online traps for adoring fans of the rich and famous showed a slight preference for using female celebrities as bait. Of the top ten most dangerous stars to search for online identified by McAfee, six are women.
The survey is meant to highlight the danger of clicking on suspicious links.
“Consumers may not be fully aware that the searches they conduct pose risk, nor may they understand the detrimental effects that can occur when personal information is compromised in exchange for access to their favorite celebrities, movies, TV shows or music,” said Gary Davis, chief consumer security evangelist at McAfee.
He continued, “Criminals use deceptive websites to dupe unsuspecting consumers into accessing malicious files or content. It is essential that consumers learn to protect their digital lives from lurking cybercriminals by thinking twice before they click on suspicious links or download content.”
Other celebrities who made the top-10 list for riskiest names on the internet include Pitch Perfect actress Anna Kendrick, 12 Years a Slave actress Lupita Nyong’o, comedian Jimmy Fallon, famed ’70s martial artist Jackie Chan, rappers Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj, and Westworld star Tessa Thompson.
