RuPaul’s Drag Race season 16 queen Xunami Muse brought both looks and talent to the runway and won the title of Miss Congeniality. Since she wowed us with her fashion sense and sweet singing voice, she is poised to take the music world by storm. We put this New York queen (by way of Panama) in the hot seat and got to know more about this stunning queen by having her answer the Socialite Seven.
When did you know that you wanted to become a performer?
I feel like I've always known, but for so long I allowed the voices in your head to that tell me, no, you're not that, no, you can't do that. It was a long battle and there was a point when I think I was like 28 and that's when I was like, no, if I don't try it, if I don't conquer my fear I'm never going to be this person that I know I can be. So, I'm glad that I fought that.
Who has had the biggest influence on your career and why?
The biggest influence? I would definitely say it's two people, Kandy [Muse] and Shaquida Hall from New York City. Kandy, because when we met, she just kind of became my number one fan from the get-go. I barely had experience, but in our friendship she nurtured me and she believed in me, sometimes when I didn't believe in myself. Shaquida definitely was another one who fought for me and gave me a chance when I first started. Those are two people that I definitely have to be very thankful for where I am today.
What is your favorite song to perform?
It's “Yo Viviré” by Celia Cruz. It's basically the Spanish cover of “I Will Survive.”
Who would you want to play you if they made a movie of your life?
Ooh, that’s a great question. I've never thought about that. You know what? Just because I want to see him in drag, Michael B. Jordan.
If you could wake up in the morning and have a superpower or a talent that you don't already possess, what would you want that to be?
Ooh, the ability to fly. For some reason, I have these dreams where I'm flying and at first, it started as, I would be struggling and I couldn't really fly. But now it's evolved into I fully just fly anywhere. And it's such a good feeling. I want to be able to fly.
What are three things you cannot live without?
I mean, it may get a little cheesy, but I feel like number one is my friends, you know, when, when it feels like there's nothing there, I can always rely on them to fill that void. Video games, because when I get bored, that is the easiest way for me to pass the time. And, let's see…one more thing. Something I can't live without? I mean, I like to eat, so I guess food. I mean, we all can't live without food.
What's the best piece of advice you've been given?
Don't take life too seriously but still be present. I would say definitely every move should be with intention. If you live an intentional life, you will get to where you want to be in no time.
