Beyoncé set off some Independence Day fireworks of her own, releasing a new song called “Morning Dew (Donk)” as a surprise Fourth of July gift to fans.
The single marks her first release in two years. And as only Beyoncé can, she delivered it without a single word of advance warning.
The soulful track was written by Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, The-Dream, and Darius Dixon, and kicks off a 60-day countdown to the hitmaker’s 45th birthday on September 4, as well as the reissue of her 2006 album B’DAY, according to a statement from her Parkwood Entertainment camp.
Parkwood was direct about the intention behind the drop. The single is described as “a direct nod to her loyal BeyHive to commemorate the upcoming epic celebration of B’Day,” with the song confirmed to be included as part of the 20th Anniversary edition of the B’Day re-release.
The mid-tempo R&B track has a history that stretches well beyond its streaming debut. Originally an outtake from her 2013 self-titled album, a version of “Donk” leaked online in September 2023 and became popular on TikTok. The new version, “Morning Dew (Donk),” is re-recorded and reworked with new vocals compared to the previously leaked version.
The song was paired with a lyric video that reuses two-decade-old footage shot by frequent collaborator Cliff Watts, who also photographed Beyoncé’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover.
Fans wasted no time making their feelings known. One fan wrote, “she finally let it out of the vault,” while another declared, “I don’t know what made her do this but I am so happy I can finally stream this.” A third chimed in: “Woke up to new Beyoncé in 2026?!? Best surprise ever. Hive we eating good!!”
B’DAY itself remains one of the most commercially dominant albums of Beyoncé’s catalog. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 541,196 copies, and its No. 1 chart debut was repeated internationally, including in Japan, where it took less than three days to land atop the International Album Chart.
The release of “Morning Dew (Donk)” immediately reignited speculation about Beyoncé’s long-awaited Act III — the final chapter of a trilogy that began with 2022’s Renaissance and continued with Cowboy Carter, which earned her first, long-awaited Album of the Year Grammy despite being the most-nominated female artist without a win in the category, even while holding the record as the most-awarded artist in Grammy history.

At first listen, nothing about “Morning Dew (Donk)” suggests it fits with Beyoncé’s recent trend of breaking down genre barriers. The mid-tempo R&B track is very soothing to the ears — it sounds perfect for a summer drive, a day at the pool, or a cookout with family and friends.
But don’t mistake a smooth groove for a misdirect. The BeyHive has been on high alert for months, convinced Act III is imminent. A fan account on X claimed as recently as April 27 that “the album is 100% complete, only vinyl pressings remain, expected to be finished before June 2026, showing a summer release,” adding that the album will have “two big features.”
Beyoncé’s publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, was having none of it. She slammed the fan theory on X, commenting under the post: “This is unequivocally false!!”

The Today show also reported that fans shouldn’t expect any sort of Act III announcement this week. For now, Parkwood’s messaging ties “Morning Dew (Donk)” squarely to the B’Day milestone celebration — not a new era.
Still, with Beyoncé, the gap between what’s confirmed and what’s coming has always been the most exciting place to live.
