Garth Brooks faced serious allegations in a Los Angeles lawsuit filed Thursday (Oct. 3). The country star responded, saying he’s “not the man they have painted me to be.”
The claims come from a woman who worked for Brooks as a hairstylist and makeup artist starting in 2017, after working for his wife, Trisha Yearwood, since 1999. The unnamed accuser alleges Brooks raped her in an L.A. hotel room in May 2019 and subjected her to “other appalling sexual conduct” that year.
This lawsuit also brought attention to an earlier case filed last month in Mississippi federal court. An anonymous “celebrity” plaintiff tried to prevent an accuser from going public with sexual abuse allegations, calling it “ongoing attempted extortion.”
Brooks sent a statement to E News! late Thursday (Oct. 03, 2024). He denied the sexual assault claims, saying the threats and accusations “felt like having a loaded gun waved in my face.” He confirmed he was behind the mystery Mississippi filing, done anonymously “for the sake of families on both sides.”
“For the last two months, I have been hassled to no end with threats, lies, and tragic tales of what my future would be if I did not write a check for many millions of dollars,” Brooks began his statement. “It has been like having a loaded gun waved in my face. Hush money, no matter how much or how little, is still hush money. In my mind, that means I am admitting to behavior I am incapable of—ugly acts no human should ever do to another. We filed suit against this person nearly a month ago to speak out against extortion and defamation of character. We filed it anonymously for the sake of families on both sides.”
“I want to play music tonight,” Brooks concluded, referring to his scheduled show at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, part of his ongoing Las Vegas residency. “I want to continue our good deeds going forward. It breaks my heart these wonderful things are in question now. I trust the system, I do not fear the truth, and I am not the man they have painted me to be.”
