Karl Lagerfeld’s cat Choupette will apparently inherit some of his fortune 1

On Tuesday, the world learned that inimitable German designer and artistic director of Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld, had passed away age 85. Tributes poured in across social media from his collaborators and friends, but thoughts quickly turned to perhaps his closest companion: his pet cat, Choupette.

The concern was probably misguided, as it looks like Choupette will hold onto her enviable lifestyle. Lagerfeld last year discussed in an interview with Numéro that she will get her paws on a cut of his estimated fortune (estimated wildly between £150 million and £350 million). “I read somewhere that you’ve named Choupette as the heir to your vast fortune…” questioned Philip Utz. “Among others, yes,” replied Karl. “Don’t worry, there is enough for everyone.”
