Sam Worthington may be the star of the highest-grossing movie to date, but four years ago the future Titan was living out of a broken down car with $2,000 to his name. And all by choice.

According to a new interview with Details magazine he didn’t like what he saw in the mirror back then so he sold the mirror and everything in his apartment in an auction to his buddies.

“My mates came around, saying, ‘How much for the kettle?'” he recalls. “I said ‘Five bucks. Starting at five. Do I hear six? Six? Sold, for five bucks!’

The article also paints him as a man focused on doing a job more than a a Hollywood star or an artist with a calling.

He was a brick layer and didn’t have hint of acting in his childhood “I’m not a great fan of people who say they put a sheet up in the backyard when they were 7 and entertained all the neighbors,” he says. “When I was 7, I thought I was a fucking fire truck.”

His acting career was an accident. He tagged along on an audition with a former actress girlfriend and he got a part while she didn’t (she dumped him..). From there he felt like he was coasting, picking up roles here and there and showing up on set after a night out at the bars.
