The Week in Drag – RuPaul’s Drag Race finale, Nina West’s new fab collab, new music from Laganja and Sum Ting Wong and more

RuPaul's Drag Race season 13 finale

SPOILER ALERT!

This week, we welcome a new queen into the Drag Race Hall of Fame (congrats to you, Symone and our new Miss Congeniality, LaLa Ri) and get excited for the newest international queens.

We also check in one last time with the season 13 top four and check out reviews of the looks and performances from reunion episode with some of your favorite queens.

We also have news of a new kids’ show from our favorite congenial queen and the launch of some amazing new cosmetics from Trixie Mattel. We have lots to get to, so let’s bring it to the runway!

While we aren’t doing a full recap of the finale, we did have a few favorite moments from the lip sync extravaganza and crowning of our new queen. The black and white, red all over and finale extravaganza looks were really stunning.

There was also a lovely tribute to the late, great Chi Chi DeVayne.  May you rest in perfection.

And while Symone (deservedly) won the crown, I would like to vote for Rosé’s brother, a/k/a Stunelina, to be on season 14. What a great family.

Our new queen, Symone was in the hot seat with Michelle Visage for her episode of “Whatcha Packin’?” In the chat, she discussed getting out of her head, being part of the Arkansas-based House of Avalon and her unforgettable runway (including Michelle’s favorite “foxy lady” look.)

Also this week, another final top 4 queen, Rosé, sat down with Michelle to talk about her time on the show, the problems with her perfectionism getting in the way, her Stephanie’s Child sisters and even spills the tea on “Rosenail” and her first lip sync with Olivia Lux.

Remember when Symone strutted into the werk room in that incredible Polaroid dress? She radiated drag royalty and show us how she beat that mug for her memorable entrance look.

Rosé also shows us how she put together her pink-hued entrance look (without her blacked-out tooth.)

The queens of season 13 open their yearbooks and hand out superlatives to their sisters. Check out who was dubbed Class Clown, season narrator, most runway ready and the trade of the season (they were wrong about that one…it’s definitely Rosé.)

Yuhua Hamasaki, Laganja Estranja and Rock M Sakura dish about the looks and music videos  from the season 13 queens on the Ru-union special on “Bootleg Opinions.”

One of the most congenial queens in Drag Race, the “eleven-gendary” Nina West, has another exciting project on the horizon and is teaming up with one of the fab five from Queer Eye. Nina’s Treehouse aims to create a space where all children feel welcomed, accepted and inspired to be creative, while embracing what makes them unique. It’s part Mrs. Doubtfire, part Sesame Street with a bit of Pee-wee’s Playhouse mixed in.

“This is a dream come true. I am so excited to partner with Bobby Berk and Stoopid Buddy Studios to bring this world of Nina’s Treehouse to life,” said Nina, “Every bit of my heart is jumping at the opportunity to share joy, love, and kindness with children of all ages and continue to carry the torch of greats like Fred Rogers, Jim Henson, Paul Reubens, and Walt Disney. This show is the definition of magic!”

“I am so thrilled to be developing Nina’s Treehouse with Andrew and Stoopid Buddy. It’s our hope that every child feels welcome and safe to express the joy of being who they are when watching this show, and we are so excited to bring that vision to life in a new format that’s fresh and fun,” Bobby added.

If you weren’t excited about the arrival of RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under, the judges lined up for this inaugural season might just change your mind. Kylie and Dannii Minogue, along with esteemed Kiwi director, screenwriter and actor Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit, Thor: Ragnarok) are set to appear as guest judges on the highly anticipated first season, premiering May 1st on WOW Presents Plus in the US and select territories worldwide.

Kylie Minogue said, “I’m SO excited to finally be a part of RuPaul’s Drag Race for the first series Down Under. It’s such an iconic show and I can’t wait to watch the contestants perform their hearts out to win the title of Down Under’s first Drag Superstar!”

Dannii Minogue said, “I got to have a cheeky ‘Untucked’ chat with the girls on RPDR Down Under Season 1. They had come straight from the runway challenge so it was exciting and tense all at the same time, not knowing who was going to have to lip sync for their life!”
