Wendy Williams has been hospitalized amid her quest for independence. The 60-year-old media personality was moved from her New York City assisted living facility to a nearby hospital on Monday, March 10, 2025, after officials conducted a welfare check. The check was prompted when Williams dropped a handwritten note from her window stating, “Help! Wendy!!”

The wellness inspection occurred around 11:15 A.M., resulting in New York Police Department officers escorting Williams from the facility to a waiting ambulance.

The former television personality, diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and primary progressive aphasia, resides in a memory unit at the assisted living facility while challenging her court-mandated guardianship.

Williams’ legal guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, who has overseen her affairs since May 2022, controls her financial and medical decisions. Morrissey has stated publicly that Williams is “cognitively impaired, permanently disabled, and legally incapacitated.”

Williams strongly contests these claims, maintaining her mental competency. “I am not cognitively impaired but I feel like I am in prison,” she declared during a The Breakfast Club interview in January.

The conditions of Williams’ guardianship paint a concerning image. She exists in a heavily controlled setting with locked elevators, limited visitors, and restricted movement. She reports being uninformed about her medication regimen.

Further complicating matters, Williams hasn’t received professional medical evaluation in months, despite her diagnosed conditions. In a recent NewsNation’s Banfield appearance, she revealed, “I’ve been here for almost a year now, and this is very suffocating.”

Despite her health challenges, Williams remains determined to regain her autonomy. She’s fighting the guardianship arrangement, and Morrissey has recently indicated openness to a fresh medical assessment. This development could prove crucial in Williams’ battle for independence.

Williams had planned to make her daytime television comeback on ABC’s The View, which would have marked her first daytime appearance in years. However, her recent hospitalization has cast doubt on this scheduled appearance.

As this prominent guardianship dispute unfolds, Wendy Williams’ situation highlights the intricate and potentially problematic aspects of court-appointed guardianships. For her younger audience who remember her dynamic television presence, her current circumstances represent a dramatic and troubling transformation.
