Octavia Spencer has apologized to Britney Spears for joking she should make her new fiancรฉ sign a pre-nuptial agreement. Yes, the internet apparently cannot understand what a joke is.

When the pop star announced her engagement to longtime boyfriend Sam Asghari on Instagram on Monday (Sep. 13, 2021), Spencer left a funny comment advising Britney to protect her assets from her third husband-to-be.

โ€œMake him sign a prenup,โ€ she commented on the post.

Asghari seemed to laugh off the comment in an Instagram Story later that day which read, โ€œThank you for your concern about the prenup!โ€ and joked that he was the one who needed legal protection.

โ€œOf course weโ€™re getting iron clad prenup to protect my Jeep and shoe collection in case she dumps me one day,โ€ he quipped alongside laughing emojis.

Fans speculated online whether comments like Spencerโ€™s about a prenup, drove Spears to seek more privacy. Please. Everyone was wondering the same. The topic would have had to been addressed at some point. And do people know what the word โ€œbulliedโ€ actually means?

On Wednesday (Sep. 15, 2021), Octavia posted an apology for the comment on Instagram, saying she had already reached out privately to the couple.

โ€œYโ€™all, a few days ago Sam and Britney announced their engagement and me being me I made a joke. My intention was to make them laugh not cause pain.โ€

โ€œIโ€™ve reached out to this lovely couple privately to apologize and now want to restore just a smidge of happiness they were robbed of. Britneyโ€™s fans have seen her through a lot of pain and sheโ€™s found happiness. Weโ€™re thrilled for her. So letโ€™s show them love. #nonegativity.โ€

Sam understood that it was a joke.
