We are back, back, back again with the sixth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars, and this cast is the most diverse we’ve ever seen. We have queens of color, plus-sized queens, transgender queens, and so much charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent.
If you didn’t already know, competing this season are A’Keria C. Davenport, Jiggly Caliente, Jan, Ra’Jah O’Hara, Ginger Minj, Yara Sofia, Silky Nutmeg Ganache, Pandora Boxx, Scarlet Envy, Serena ChaCha, Kylie Sonique Love, Trinity K. Bonet and Eureka O’Hara.
In the great tradition of the show, we are reintroduced to our queens as they enter the werk room with some stunning looks and even more memorable catchphrases. Our favorite entrance line comes from season 2’s Kylie who, poking fun at a long-retired Ru-ism, enters announcing, “Oooh, girl, you got female.” And, when it comes to catchphrases, we have to acknowledge the first queen to ever utter one on the series, Kylie’s season 2 sister Pandora Boxx, who jokes, “I have a box for delivery, but I heard you only accept them in the rear.”
As for those entrance looks, our favorites were A’Keria’s golden goddess glam, Silky’s royal blue gown, complete with a cookie AND milk concealed inside, Pandora’s sparkly blue nod to the Golden Age of Hollywood and Scarlet Envy’s Ascot race, pink lemonade tie-dye fantasy. You can see it all in the episode’s first act – a solid 10 minutes of fabulousness.
Ru entered and told the cast there would be a 14th queen, but, before you have Shangela popping out of a box fantasies, Miss Piggy shows up (via video) and helps Ru launch this season’s reading challenge. Here were some of our favorite reads:
Jiggly, vocalizing a lot of fans’ sentiments on Serena’s inclusion in the cast: “Who canceled and you booked this gig?”
Pandora Boxx: “Jan is so uptight, she doesn’t need tape to tuck.”
Ra’Jah on A’Keria: “Ass almighty, ankles all tiny.”
Ginger to Ru on the cast: “My cholesterol is higher than your standards these days.”
Ginger won the reading challenge and then all of the queens hit the stage for the “All Stars Star-Studded Variety Extravaganza.” While some stumbled, like Trinity K. Bonet, who should probably have done something other than stand up and Serena’s wig themed presentation, some of the queens showcased talent with a capital “T”. Jan knocked it out of the park, belting a song (as opposed to lip syncing). Dang, queen’s got pipes!
Ra’Jah showed off her sewing skills, constructing a dress I would love to wear in less than a minute.
Scarlet Envy gave a bubbly performance that gave me burlesque vibes.
Pandora debuted her new song “Ridiculous” and gave us quirkiness, personality and exploding boobs.
The winner of the show, however, was Yara, who gave a gutsy, busty (and crazy) performance and Serena and Trinity found themselves in the bottom two. With the win, Yara had to face off against this week’s Lip Sync Assassin, the amazing Coco Montrese.
The pair battled it out to Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” and Yara’s multitalented mammaries were no competition for Coco’s moves. Since Coco won, the $10K tip rolled over into the next week and she revealed the lipstick of the queen chosen by her castmates to sashay away and probably not surprisingly, it was Serena Cha Cha.
But, as Ru said at the top of the episode, this season is a “game within a game”, so when she stopped Serena before she left the werk room and asked if she wanted to play, Serena said she’d get painted right that moment. What’s in store for us? We’ll have to wait and see!
