Simone Biles took to social media to celebrate Team USA's gold medal win in women's gymnastics at the 2024 Paris Olympics, seemingly addressing her critics in the process.

The 27-year-old gymnast, who became the most decorated in US history after Tuesday's victory, appeared to respond to former teammate MyKayla Skinner‘s comments about the team's work ethic.
“Lack of talent, lazy, olympic champions ❤️🥇🇺🇸** Biles captioned her Instagram post following the win.

The photo showed Biles posing with teammates Suni Lee, Hezly Rivera, Jade Carey, and Jordan Chiles after their top-scoring performance.

Biles' witty caption seemed to reference Skinner's earlier harsh remarks about the Olympic squad.

“Besides Simone, I feel like the talent and the depth just isn't like what it used to be. Just notice like, I mean, obviously a lot of girls don't work as hard. The girls just don't have the work ethic,” Skinner said in a now-deleted YouTube video that went viral on X.

Skinner, who retired after winning silver on vault at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, later apologized for her comments amid significant backlash.

“It was not my intention to offend or disrespect any of the athletes or take away from their hard work,” Skinner posted on Instagram July 6. “Your hard work and dedication has paid off and I congratulate each and every one of you.”

Both Skinner and Biles represented the USA at the 2014 World Championships.

Tuesday's triumph saw Biles lead the American team to its third all-around team gold medal in the last four Olympics. The US team outperformed Italy and Brazil, who secured silver and bronze medals, respectively.

The gold medal marked a successful comeback from a disappointing showing in Tokyo four years ago. It also added to Biles' impressive Olympic medal count, bringing her total to five gold, one silver, and two bronze. Her eight Olympic medals now surpass Shannon Miller‘s seven, won in 1992 and 1996, making Biles the most decorated American gymnast.

The 2024 Paris Olympics mark Biles' third Olympic appearance, following her gold medal performance with the US team in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2016.

Biles will now focus on the individual all-around finals, set to begin on Aug. 1. She has the chance to win up to four more medals as she competes against various athletes, including her teammate Suni Lee, who won gold in Tokyo.

Biles previously dubbed the 2024 Olympics as the “redemption tour” for the US women's team after their silver medal finish in Tokyo in 2021.
